Halotherapy
Salt therapy has been around for hundreds of years. Workers from salt mines and caves in Europe and Russia seemed healthier- they looked younger and hardly had any respiratory issues that were common at the time. These side effects were observed in a number of groups throughout history that spent time in salt caves, leading to a demand for a more accessible version of the caves. From this demand came the halogenerator- a device that pushes salt particles into the air that are the perfect size to be absorbed by the lungs and skin. This type of therapy is known as active salt therapy.
Wondering how salt can have effects like this? It’s quite simple! Pure sodium chloride (salt) is extremely absorbent, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory. the halogenerator pushes particles of salt into the air. When you breathe them in, the salt then acts as a sponge, absorbing harmful allergens, toxins, and foreign substances in your respiratory tract. When on your skin, the salt absorbs impurities as well, and the anti-bacterial properties help fight conditions like acne. Because some of the particles are so small, they are able to reach below the top layer of your skin and draw water into the skin, improving skin rigidity. Overall, this results in improved cell regeneration as well.
Salt halotherapy sessions can also be beneficial for people suffering from anxiety. The salt in the air creates a negative ion environment, cancelling out the constant outpouring of positive ions from the devices we use every day. Additionally, clearing out toxins and other “bad things” from your lungs allows your body to receive more oxygen, which our brains need to function at an optimal level! This increased oxygen supply promotes restful sleep and rejuvenation for your body. Plus, taking the time to relax in the room gives your the opportunity to turn your focus inward and take care of your emotional self!
